Back in the summer I got an email from a woman I connected with years back. “Can I hire you to photograph me for a magazine?” An editorial shoot – how fun!
As we got to talking and discussing details it turned out to be for one of my favorite magazines – What Women Create!!! I’ll have to do a whole separate post on how this was on my vision board, etc but for now I’m excited to tell you the issue just came out!
I photographed artist / podcaster Miriam Schulman at her home studio. We did a bunch of different shots – her doing watercolor painting, doing things in her studio, detail shots of the studio and at her desk podcasting. We were told to submit 36 images and guess what – they chose TWO!!! Editorial is definitely an interesting experience!
I got a little blurb in the back with a photo and bio…..
A few takeaways I want to share to fellow creatives and female entrepreneurs…
Build Your Community
Keep building your community and continue making connections! Whether it’s in person or online you can attend meetups, networking events, mixers, join Facebook groups or private communities through courses you’ve taken.
Stay Connected!
I remember going to some networking events and having people come up to me long enough to tell me what they do and hand me their business card before they were off to the next person. Eeeewww! What a turn off! In most cases I never heard from those people – and why would I?!? They never bothered to get MY info!
Regardless of where you meet people, have a way to stay connected whether it’s following each other on social media, liking and commenting on their posts, be active and helpful in online groups, do a personal zoom with them or meet in person for coffee. (in my case green juice!)
Be Visible!
Don’t hide out alone in your cave! Put yourself out there so you can be top of mind when an opportunity arises. Post on social, start an email newsletter to let people know you’re still around and what you’ve been up to AND how you can help them!
Stay tuned to my follow up post about lessons learned from this manifestation!
