The end or beginning of a year seems to be the time when most people reflect and make goals. No need to wait! If you’re not happy with where you are, NOW is the time for change!
The topic of personal transformation seems to be a theme this week! We’re talking about it in some of the programs I’m in, in the books I’m reading and in discussions with my book club. But what is personal transformation? I see it as being a BETTER version of YOURSELF – not trying to be SOMEONE ELSE.
Here are 4 areas you can improve upon to create a personal transformation…
Mindset
As with everything – it all starts with mindset! My favorite topic!! This is where you want to start to be aware of your thoughts and beliefs. Remember your beliefs lead to your thoughts. Your thoughts lead to feelings. Your feelings lead to the actions you will, or won’t take. We want to get a hold of those limiting beliefs and start creating new, more empowering ones!
Habits
Take a look at your habits. Are there any that could use eliminating or improving? How much TV are you watching? Are you endlessly scrolling on social media when instead you can be creating? Getting enough sleep? Eating enough healthy food? If there’s an area in your life that you’d like to improve, look at the habits associated with that area and do a revamp!
Skills
Is there something you want to do but you’re not sure how to do it? When was the last time you learned something new? Maybe it’s time to learn a new skill! There are plenty of online classes you can take – or google it!
Actions
If you have a goal, are you taking the actions necessary to achieve that goal or are you still just thinking about it? Nothing is going to happen without any action. There’s a difference though between forced action and inspired action. Inspired action is when it feels exciting – like it’s the next logical step. It’s action but it could feel effortless. I find journaling helps me get clear on what steps to take. If you’re not clear, anything is better than nothing! Take one tiny step. Action, no matter how small, will breed clarity. We learn by doing, not just thinking!
I’ll give you an example in my own life. Let’s say a goal of mine is to be a financially successful artist. There are plenty of artists I see online that are killing it in their business. It’s really inspiring! So in my own transformation, I’m not trying to BE them. I’m learning from them to see where I can improve in my own life. I’m not going to all of a sudden be a political activist or only use primary colors in my art because that’s what one successful artist is doing.
Instead I analyze – what is the mindset, habits, skills and actions of these other artists? They are consistent in posting work daily. They are disciplined in creating new work. They have a mindset that their art is a gift to the world and of course they should share it!
Do you see how that works?
Let’s journal on it! Here are some prompts that could help in your own personal transformation…
- What area in my life do I want to improve?
- What are my current thoughts about this? ex: I’m not good enough, I’m too old, etc
- What are new thoughts and beliefs I can have about this that could be more empowering?
- Why haven’t I already made improvements? What’s been holding me back? Keep asking why until you get to the real root of it.
- Is there anyone already doing what I want to do? What can I learn from them?
- What are my current habits and how can I improve them?
- Is there something new I need to learn?
- What actions can I start to take? Break it down to tiny ones so it won’t feel overwhelming.
