For the past few years I’ve become such as avid reader! I never thought I’d give up reading a physical book but as the type started getting harder to see, I was so grateful to be able to read on my iPad. Anyone else have that issue of the letters seemingly getting smaller?!? ๐ I’ve also become a much faster reader and usually have a few books going at once.
One of the books I’m currently reading and LOVING is The Artst’s Way. I’d been seeing this book mentioned over and over so I thought it was time to give it a try. It came at the perfect time because this year I’ve really been trying to embrace myself more as an artist. The book is meant to be read over 12 weeks where each week it focuses on a different aspect of unleashing the artist within. It’s like the best self help book for artists! I’ve already discovered so much about myself right from the beginning.
She talks about being a shadow artist – someone that doesn’t put themselves in the forefront but surrounds themselves with other creative people. ME!!!
- I married an artist
- I created a photography camp for kids and have taught after school art classes
- I’m BEHIND THE LENS photographing OTHER creative people
Wow! So much awareness already! Two thing sthat she suggests to do throughout readign the book (and possibly forever) is odo mornign pages and artist dates.
Morning pages is just a writing exercise – to journal 3 pages each morning – stream of consciousness. Since journaling was already part of my morning routine, this was easy. The only thing is now I cut myself off at 3 pages. I could go on and on!!
Artist dates are supposed to be done weekly by yourself for the sake of having fun. I totally LOVE my alone time so I’m up for this as well!
I’ll try to post about my artist dates and what else I’ve discovered as I continue to make my way through the book.
Let me know if you’ve read this book and how it has impacted your life or if you’re going to start reading it now!
