I noticed I haven’t been as regular or as dedicated about my artist dates since school started and even though this was a quick trip to the city, I was alone and it was fun so I’m counting it! ๐
I’m still on a mission to photograph flowers which is becoming a bit more challenging since the season changed and the temps are dropping. I decided on a new approach. Instead of photographing them in gardens or anywhere out in nature, it occurred to me that I could buy them, bring them home and photograph them there!
I knew there was a flower vendor at the Union Square Market so I hopped on the subway early in the morning so I could get them and be back with enough time to photograph them uninterrupted before my girls came home from school.
I love greenmarkets! It’s one of my favorite activities to do. It’s definitely a source of inspiration for me so since I was there already, I walked around to check out the other vendors. So many things I would have loved to get but I didn’t want to lug it on the subway – other than flowers of course!
There were so many great flowers to choose from but when I saw these amazing colors I justhad to get these Dahlias!
These zinnias looked like something you’d see at Free People or Anthropologie so of course I loved them!
One guy stopped me and asked if I was Nancy Wilson from the group Heart. I love their songs but don’t even remember what she looks like. After I said no he said he wouldn’t tell anyone either if he was a famous rock star! Maybe I should have shown him my license to prove that I was really me!!
When I got home I did a simple setup in my favorite spot by the window in the dining area where the natural light was the best. My friend lent me his 100mm macro lens so finally the images I saw in my head were actually coming to life! Sometimes you really just need the right tools.
I’ll show you some final images another time. Still deciding which ones to use, if any, in my upcoming gallery show.
So glad I got to play around with this lens! I’ve been thinking of buying it and now I know for sure I really like it!
Here’s a tip – before investing in new expensive camera equipment, rent it or borrow it first to make sure you like it and it gives you the results you want.
