For creative entrepreneurs, social media is an invaluable tool to showcase your work, connect with your audience, and attract potential clients. However, many creatives often find themselves in a content creation rut, unsure of what to post to keep their social media channels engaging and vibrant.
I totally get it! As creatives we want to create! But if you also want to sell your work and services, it’s important to also market – which means getting the word out there. Social media – love it or hate it, is a free resource where billions of people hang out. So why not make use of it?!?
In this blog post, let’s explore a range of content ideas tailored specifically for creatives to help you break free from the content creation block and foster a thriving online presence.
1. Showcase Your Work-in-Progress (WIP)
I find having weekly themes makes content creation so much easier. How about “Work In Progress Wednesdays“? Give your audience a glimpse into your creative process. Share photos or short videos of your current projects as they evolve. Highlight the different stages, from brainstorming and sketches to the final product. This not only provides a behind-the-scenes look but also generates anticipation and interest in your work.
I’ve done “Wall Art Wednesdays” where I showcase art from my print shop.
2. Before-and-After Transformations
Demonstrate the transformative power of your creative work. Whether you’re a graphic designer, artist, or photographer showing before-and-after comparisons can captivate your audience and showcase your skills effectively.
3. Share Client Testimonials and Success Stories
Let your happy clients speak for you. Share testimonials, reviews, or success stories from satisfied clients. Personal stories and glowing recommendations can build trust and credibility in your work.
4. Educational Content
Position yourself as an expert in your field by creating educational content. Offer tips, tutorials, or insights related to your craft. Just like I’m doing in this blog post! 🙂 Don’t worry about losing clients if you’re sharing tips. For example if you’re a portrait photographer you can share tips on how moms can get cute photos of their kids at the playground using their iPhones. .Other ideas can be to create a video tutorial on your painting technique or a blog post about selecting the perfect font for a design. Providing value will keep your audience engaged.
5. Behind-the-Scenes Snippets
Pull back the curtain and share candid glimpses of your workspace, tools, and daily routines. Authentic behind-the-scenes content humanizes your brand and fosters a stronger connection with your audience.
6. Highlight Your Inspirations
Share what inspires you. It could be books, movies, other artists’ work, or personal experiences. Explain how these inspirations influence your creative process and final pieces. For me I usually share going on hikes, visiting local gardens and going on photo walks.
7. Flashbacks and Throwbacks
Dig into your archives and share older work that holds sentimental or artistic value. Reflect on your growth as a creative by comparing your past and present creations.
8. Engage in Trend Challenges
Participate in social media challenges and trends that align with your niche. For example, you can join in art challenges like Inktober or design challenges like Logo Design Challenge. These can expand your reach and connect you with like-minded creators. This can definitely be fun and will keep you creating! You can also start your own. A couple of times I did “40 Days of Floral Art” and encouraged people to join in. I ended up having a new body of work to show for it while also creating community around a common interest.
9. Interactive Content
Encourage interaction with your audience through polls, quizzes, or questions. This is great on Instagram Stories! Ask for input on your creative decisions or seek ideas for future projects. Engaging with your audience builds a sense of community.
10. Time-Limited Offers and Promotions
Boost sales and attract new clients by running time-limited promotions or exclusive discounts. Create visually appealing posts to announce these offers and build a sense of urgency. You don’t want to be the annoying car salesman and sell all the time. But remember you do want to make money from your creative work so you need to let your audience know about the art you sell or the services you can be hired for. It’s definitely a balancing act!
Maintaining an engaging social media presence as a creative entrepreneur is not only about showcasing your work but also about building a community and connecting with your audience on a deeper level. Mix up your content and try out these ideas to keep your social media engaging, all while establishing yourself as a creative expert!! Remember that authenticity and consistency are key to creating a meaningful and lasting online presence – and ultimately leading to sales!!
