Wanna take your creativity from a hobby to a business? How would it feel to spend your days doing what you love instead of only when you can find the time to fit it in?
Here are my top 5 tips…
1 – DECIDE
This may seem odd but there’s something in the power of a decision – like a real no nonsense, fully committed decision! Make the decision that even if you have a job, kids or no time, you’ll still find a way to make it happen! Get your journal out and start writing about WHY it’s important to you. This will be the driving force!
How committed are you?
2 – SHOW UP
I mean show up everywhere! – In person and online! When I was starting my photography biz I carried my camera around with me everywhere. People in my neighborhood starting noticing and associating me with photography.
I was the class mom when my girls were young and photographed field trips, class parties and school events. I participated in local festivals where I’d have a table and show my work. I also posted on Instagram and Facebook. Show up AND show your work!
Where can you show up?
3 – NETWORK
Network with other creatives in and out of your industry as well as people in general. You can help each other spread the word, share resources and referrals.
Who can you reach out to?
4 – SAY YES TO OPPORTUNITIES
Even before you think you’re ready! I had been doing kids and family portraits for a few years when someone asked if I also do Bar Mitzvahs. My answer was yes of course I do – even though I never photographed a mitzvah in my life! I knew I could figure it out though! Was I scared during that first mitzvah shoot? Hell yeah! I was freaking out INSIDE but I never showed it on the outside!
What can you start saying yes to?
5 – TELL PEOPLE
Let people know you’re a professional meaning you charge for your art and services. If you’re available for photo shoots, tell them your rates. If you’re a painter and someone says they love your work, let them know how they can buy it or that you also do commissions. Don’t make people guess – TELL THEM! You have something they need and if not, they may know other people that need what you have.
Are you letting people know what you are selling?
I hope this helps!
I went live on Facebook to discuss this so if you want to hear a more expanded version watch this video.
I know it can feel overwhelming to start or if you’re at the beginning stages, so if you have lots of questions that need answering, I offer “Pick My Brain” mentoring sessions. Ahhh see what I just did there? I told you what I had to offer!! 🙂
Hit me up with all of your questions! By the end of the call you’ll have more clarity as well as action steps that you can implement right away!
