We’ve all been there at one point or another. You WANT TO be motivated but can’t seem to get your butt in gear to make things happen. Some mornings you wake up full of energy, ready to go tackle your to-do list while other days you barely have enough motivation to brush your teeth. it can be sooo frustrating when you’re smack in the middle of feeling stuck.
Here are some common reasons you may be feeling that way with actions you can take to start getting back into the flow.
1 – Uninspiring Goals / Purpose
When was the last time you set a goal for yourself? At the start of a new year? Ever?!? Even if you have set goals, when was the last time you looked at them? One reason you may be feeling stuck is not having a purpose, a direction that you can move towards – something that gets you excited about getting up in the morning.
Action Step: Set some new goals that get you excited or reevaluate the ones you already have to see that you’re still aligned with them.
2 – Something or Someone is Draining You
Are you in a job that feels like it’s sucking the life out of you? Are you needing a new direction for your business? Are the people in your life negative and complaining all the time? Or what about your home – are you surrounded by old, warn out stuff? This can ALL be draining! It’s time for an environment upgrade – people, places and things!
Action Step:
- People – Be mindful of who you’re spending time with and the conversations you’re having. Start spending more time with the people that light you up and less with those that don’t! If you don’t have these people in real life, find them online in places like Facebook groups and Clubhouse rooms.
Don’t adapt to the energy in the rom. Influence the energy in the room.

- Places – If you need a change in the job or business department, first things first. Before doing anything drastic how can you look at your current situation in a different light? What can you be grateful for as it relates to that situation?
If you know you’re really ready for a change,, start making plans. Can you do freelance work on the side? Can you add a new offering to your current biz and fade out old offerings that you’re no longer aligned with? - Things – look around your home and office and take notice of the things that need repair or can be thrown away. Start decluttering and get rid of things! Where can you start upgrading? Your old stained t-shirts that you’re now wearing as pajamas – get rid of them! Something I recently did was buy a new duvet cover. It made such a difference! If it starts to feel overwhelming, start with one room at a time or even one shelf or one drawer.
3 – Doing The Same Things Over and Over
Doing the same things over and over again can sometimes feel monotonous and boring. Try to switch things up a bit. When you do something new it stimulates your brain and make you more alert!
Action Step: Mix up your routines – take a different route on your daily walk, add a new topping to your acai bowl, watch a documentary instead of doing a second round of your favorite Netflix show.
If you’re feeling stuck creatively try something new in that area as well. Are you a painter or photographer that only paints or photographs people? Bring your paints or camera out to a garden. Notice the trees and flowers and paint and photograph them for a change!
4 – Solitude
Don’t get me wrong I LOVE LOVE LOVE my alone time but being able to talk to, or hang out with people that inspire you can do wonders for your mood! Nothing better than hanging with a great friend! We’re all busy but making it a priority to spend some time with people you have fun with can be an energy boost! Who knows what creative ideas can come from a convo with a friend.
Action Step – call or text a friend and make plans to meet for tea, a green juice, lunch, a hike or something else you both enjoy doing
5 – Holding Things In
When you keep your thoughts all bottled in, one thing leads to another and before you know it you’ll be spiraling! What first started out as small has festered into something way bigger! We tend to have the same thoughts on repeat each day. If they’re bringing you down, making you feel unmotivated and just plain old blah, it’s time to start thinking some new thoughts!
Action Step – First step is awareness. Be aware of your feelings so you can figure out what thoughts have been the triggers. My go-to activity for this is journaling!! Open up your journal and start writing about what’s been going on with you without any judgement. You can also download the Let’s Get Unstuck journaling prompts for extra support and clarity.
Let me know which one is the culprit in your situation and do give the Let’s Get Unstuck exercise a try. I’m hearing from people that have used it that they’re already getting clarity and making breakthroughs. The same can be true for you!
