This week I started reading the book The Artist’s Way. Whoa! I’m loving it so far! I’ll do a whole separate post on that book but in the meantime the book suggests that we make a weekly commitment to an artist date. This is something you do by yourself to get the creative juices flowing. This week I had the urge to go to Wave Hill – a beautiful garden and cultural center along the Hudson River, and fortunately walking distance from my home!
I’ve done other posts about it from different seasons which you can search for on the blog.
It’s been crazy hot hot here in NY but Wave Hill has a lot of trees which means a lot of shade. I took many shade breaks in between photographing flowers.
I was fascinated by these flowers. They reminded me of a toy from when I was a kid. I described it to my husband because of course I couldn’t remember the name. His memory is way better than mine and he said it was called Squirmles! Yes!! Those weird fuzzy animal things (I had a blue one) that seemed to “magically” move! Do you remember those? If not, google it.
I had so much fun – there was a lot of variety of flowers and colors that day!
I love going through my photos after a shoot and the whole editing process in Photoshop. As I’m editing, certain images stand out to me where I want to take it a little further and give them more of a painterly look. I don’t have a formula as to which ones I select. It’s more like a feeling. You’ll see as you’re scrolling through
I really loved the unique stripes on this one . I definitely want to try and draw these!
With the color choices I made in this one it reminded me of the beach. I can just picture it hanging on the walls in someone’s beach house! Can’t you?!?
I’ve always loved daisies. There’s something so sweet and simple about them. It reminds me of the country being up in the Catskills in the summer as a kid. We’d always see them growing on the side of the road.
These next 2 remind me of fireworks and corn on the cob!
And finally Horton Hears a Who 🙂
I’d love to know if any of these images spark a feeling or remind you of anything. Let me know in the comments below…
Stay tuned for more Artist Dates!!
