One of my intentions moving forward is to put myself out there more as an artist – not to just be labelled as a photographer.
When the opportunity came up with KRVC to participate in a local art show, I took it!
This past weekend I had a table at an event called Art at The Amalgamated along with almost 20 other artists.
It had been a while since I had done anything like this. It took a lot of prep work – figuring out what I wanted to show, how to display everything, as well as getting new business cards printed.
Along with the photography I would have on display I wanted to have a central art piece as a decoration so I created this rolled paper roses piece.
I made all of the roses out of decorative scrapbook paper and glued them onto a 2 ft square board. My husband helped by attaching a wire to the back so I’d be able to hang it up. Funny thing is it was only meant for display but people were asking me how much I was selling it for! This wasn’t for sale and now it’s actually hanging in my home office space as a reminder to stay creative.
The space was large and had a lot of character. I had a couple of friends also doing it so it was great to reconnect with them again.
I did end up selling a few of my favorite images. One woman was telling me how she was going to display them in her bedroom. Another planned on giving one to her mom who loves daisies. I love hearing this! It makes me feel so great to know my art can have a positive impact on another person!
I’ll keep you updated on future events and in the meantime you can always check out my online print shop.
