With the kids home from summer it may seem like the new schedule is all over the place. You still have goals and desires that you’re not ready to let go of. And why should you!!! Here are some tips to keep you going and still make progress even during summer break.
1 – Assess The New Schedule & Create A Plan
We’re transitioning from the school year to summer break so yes, the schedule is going to look different. Are your kids in camp? at home? working? Is it the same each day or changes week by week? Get a clear picture so you know what you’re working with and you can create a plan to have time to work on your business.
2 – Be OK With It
We’re in a new season that lasts 2 months (school break). Accept it and be ok with where you are and set your expectations. This is where mindset will play a key role! If you feel frustrated, resentful and annoyed by the changing schedule or the fewer hours you now have to work on your business, it just won’t do you any good. You may end up feeling like what’s the use and want to give up and we definitely don’t want that to happen! Being grateful and happy with the time you do have will put you in a different state of mind and keep you motivated to stay on track. You can still make progress!!
3 – Look For Extra Pockets Of Time
Where can you find extra pockets of time in your day? Wake up earlier, get stuff done during nap time or while waiting for the kids to get dropped off from camp. Instead of endlessly scrolling on social media – (come on, we all do it) use that time to do something that will help move the needle with your business goals.
4 – Delegate
You don’t need to do it all! With summer comes more laundry, more food, more everything! Get the family to help. You don’t need to be the one doing the car pooling, dinners, making lunches, laundry, dishes and everything else. Ask for help!
5 – Prioritize
With possible fewer hours to work on your business, this is the time to really prioritize what’s most important on your to-do list It’s most likely not spending hours to choose the perfect font or colors for your new website. What are the actual important tasks that will help move you forward? Leave perfectionism at the door!!
Not only is it a good idea to prioritize what you work on but if your goals and desires are important to you, prioritize yourself as well! You know how we always want to make sure our kids are happy? Do the same for yourself!
6 – Set Boundaries
If your kids are home or their schedule is all over the place, you need to set boundaries. Be clear on when it’s your time for uninterrupted alone time. Close the door, go into a different room and let them know how important this alone time is for you and your goals.
7 – Batch
Batching is always important but if you plan to go away this summer on long vacations or even shorter getaways (and I hope you do!), for consistency sake it’s great to still have things going on in your business like social media posts and your email newsletters. These can be batched, scheduled and posted automatically so while you’re laying on the beach, you’re still getting your business out there!
8 – Have Fun and Keep At It!
It’s summer! Have fun, stress less, do fun activities, go outside and make the most of the longer days, go for ice cream and enjoy yourself. The more you allow yourself to have fun, the better you’ll feel and you’ll attract more good into your life – including new creative ideas, opportunities, etc. That being said, ALSO keep going on your goals! Keep moving forward as best you can!
