It’s crazy to think as of writing this post we’re on week 11 here in NYC of the Corona Quarantine (COVID 19). It’s such a unique period of time! How many people can say they’ve experienced a global pandemic?!? We’re in history creating times – each of us having our own unique experience. These are stories that make up your life and should be documented so you can remember what it was like months or even years from now – something you can share with future generations.
Regardless of what week you’re on in this quarantine I’m sharing 3 ways you can start and/or continue to document this unique experience.
1 – Write It Out!
This is a great time to start a blog or get going on journaling. It doesn’t have to be fancy – get a notebook, journal or grab one of your kid’s extra composition books from school and have a dedicated journal specifically for writing about your corona experience. (If you already keep a daily jounral this one would be separate from that) You can even encourage family members to keep their own journal because even though you’re in the same family you’ll each have your own unique perspective. You can begin by doing a recap from when it started to where you are today and then moving forward start to journal daily or weekly. (my journaling course includes 2 corona specific journaling sheets!!)
What can you write about? How you’re feeling during this time, new ways of doing things, what you miss, family dynamics, etc. If you prefer a digital version, start a blog. It doesn’t even have to be made public or you can just share it with family and friends. To begin get a domain name, web hosting, (affiliate link) pick a theme and go!
2 – Pics & Vids!
Photos and videos of your every day “new normal” is another great way to capture what life is like now. This isn’t the time for perfectly posed, well thought out images! We’re talking real, authentic, down and dirty documenting! Are you in the same outfit all week? Same pajamas? Where are the kids doing their school work? What does your home office look like now? Any new food you’re trying? Your experience at the grocery store and so much more! Your family may get annoyed at you (as do mine) but do it anyway! They’ll be happy to have something to look back on. Now that print labs are starting to open, think about creating a photo book and get those images off of your camera and computer so you have an actual book to look through!
3 – Create a Time Capsule
Grab a shoe box or one of your empty Amazon boxes and create a time capsule of things that are specific to this time. Suggestions include a mask, a pair of gloves, a newspaper, the label from a can of food you’re all of a sudden eating, create extra prints of the photos you’ve been taking, a new recipe you tried and loved (or hated), a roll of toilet paper (or a few squares), a list of shows you’ve binge watched or family movie night hits and misses. Once you fill up a journal put it in there as well! Have fun and get really creative with it then hide it in the back of the closet, forget about it and come back to it years from now! I’d love to hear about what you’d include in your time capsule!
Will you try any of these ideas or have you already been documenting this experience? Let me know!
