Wouldn’t it be great to feel good most of your day? Working on your mindset is a daily practice that can help get you, and keep you feeling happy, calm and positive so you can more easily deal with situations that will come up in your life and biz. If throughout the day you notice you’re feeling anxious or spiraling down a negative rabbit hole, try one of these easy suggestions to help naturally boost your mood.
1 – Play Your Favorite Song
Do you make time to listen to music throughout the day? I have to admit I don’t as much. My favorite time to listen to music was driving in the car but I’ve created a couple of playlists on Spotify – one called My FAVES and the other HIGH VIBE that I go to whenever I need an instant pick me up. My current fave high vibe song is Shiny Happy People by R.E.M. Always makes me get up and dance!
2 – Read a Motivational Quote
There’s no shortage of motivating and inspiring quotes on Instagram and Pinterest. Find one that really resonates with you and either write it on a post-it or print it out and place it where you can easily see it. Read it often and feel it!
3 – Journal It Out
A soon as you become aware of your negative feelings, whip out that journal and start writing! What caused you to feel that way? What’s going on right now and how would you prefer to feel instead? Need help with journaling? Check out this post.
4 – Listen To Your Favorite Comedian
They say laughter is the best medicine, right?!? Head over to YouTube and watch a few minutes of your favorite comedian. My go-to skits are the Passover Dinner from Sebastian Maniscalco and Jack in the Box by George Lopez. Has me cry-laughing every time! Never gets old!
5 – Call a Funny Friend
Sticking with the funny theme, we all have that friend that as soon as we say hello we start to laugh. How great is that?!? Use your phone as an actual phone and give that friend a call!!!
6 – Draw or Doodle
Drawing helps with focus and can be relaxing as long as you’re not going for perfection. 🙂 I often listen to a motivational audio or video as I’m drawing so I can get double the benefits of staying calm and positive.⠀If the idea of drawing intimidates you start by doodling repeating patterns. Do a google search for “zentangle” and you’ll see tons of ideas for patterns. Here’s a zentangle I recently did…
7 – Read a Few Pages
If working on your mindset is a priority for you, there are so many great personal development books out there to help! As you’re reading, highlight the parts that are most thought provoking, have deep meaning to you or resonate the most. Then when you feel like you need a reset, go back to your favorites and reread some of those highlighted sections!
8 – Change Your Phone’s Wallpaper
You’re on your phone more than ever now, right?!? How great would ti be to get an extra little jolt of happiness each time you went to use it?!? I’m a little late to the game on this one. I’ve had the factory installed wallpaper background on my phone for years then I finally decided to change it. Now when I pick it up I see one of my favorite pretty images and I’m like “awww” each time I use it. How did it take me this long to catch on?!? Need a calming image? Check here – I’m posting new ones each Wednesday.
9 – Reach Out
Take the focus off yourself and make someone else’s day by reaching out and letting them know you’re thinking of them. It could be a friend, client, colleague or family member. DM, email, text or dare I say write a letter?!? They’ll appreciate the surprise and it will in turn make you feel good as well. Double whammy!!!
10 – Look Through Photos
If you have an Amazon Prime account did you know it comes with photo storage? Regardless of where you’re keeping your photos – (hopefully some are even printed!) take a few minutes to stroll down memory lane. A couple of weeks ago it was my daughter’s birthday and I was looking through our photos on Amazon to print out one from each past birthday. It was so much fun looking at the creative parties we had and the cakes I used to make when they were younger.
11 – Look at Your Vision Board
If you have a vision board, make sure it’s in a place where you can see it daily. Your vision board is meant to invoke feelings of positivity and inspiration so if there’s anything on it that’s triggering you or making you feel bad, take it off and replace it with new images and quotes. This is a visual representation of your dreams and desires! Keep them alive by looking at it daily!
12 – Change of Scenery
Getting out for a walk whether it’s around the block, your backyard or even up and down your driveway is always a great way to get your body moving and to clear your head. If there’s nature around like trees, grass, flowers or birds chirping that’s a bonus! Take the time to notice and be aware of your surroundings. This may not be a doable option during times of Corona but a good one to remember for the near future. (If you do go out – be safe and wear a mask and gloves.)
These 2 are especially useful when working from home…
13 – Make Your Bed
Making your bed in the morning is a simple act that will give you the feeling of a little win for the day. Each time you walk into your bedroom, you’ll see a neat bed and feel a sense of accomplishment. Hey – wins are wins – no matter how small! An unmade bed, aside from giving you that messy cluttered feeling will also try and lure you in! With a made bed you’re less likely to sleep your days away.
14 – Be Zoom Ready
Hopefully you’re not getting on your zoom calls rolling out of bed in pj’s. Are you?!? I know on zoom call days, most of us make the effort to shower, fix our hair, makeup, get dressed and yes, even brush our teeth! if you can do that for other people, why not for yourself? You’ll be in a more productive, less lazy mood than staying in pj’s all day!
BONUS – This one applies to times of Corona Virus Lockdown…
15 – 7pm
Every night at 7pm our neighborhood “virtually” comes together for a few minutes to cheer on the healthcare and frontline workers during this time of Corona. People are shouting, whistling, banging on pots and pans and blowing noise makers out their windows and terraces. It’s an amazing feeling of a community coming together and expressing their gratitude. If this is going on in your neighborhood I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you participate and ride that wave of high energy!
All of these tips are super easy and doable! Try the ones that resonate with you the most. Notice how there’s nothing mentioned about food, alcohol or drugs on the list!!! Steer clear of those for mood boosters. No need to gain weight, get drunk or high when you have so many positive natural options available!
Tell me some things you do to help boost your mood and stay calm and positive throughout the day…
