“You need to clear your energy”
This is what one of my mentors told me when we discussed how things were going lately. While I kind of understand the concept of “energy”, I didn’t really know what she meant.
I responded with “do you mean I should burn some sage or something?”
Before hearing back from her I realized someone once gave me a bundle of sage meant for burning so I found it and lit it up.
I was amazed at what I saw!! I was in awe! I immediately got out my camera and started shooting.
I soon moved into the bathroom because I didn’t want my whole apartment to smell smokey. Fortunately the natural light was great in there! I brought in a black foam board and propped it in the bathtub and then just kept reburning and reshooting. It was exhilarating! I was so in that pure creative zone!!!
It was like the smoke was dancing and changing shape all on it’s own – going from straight lines to swirls and everything else in between – intentionally putting on a performance so I could capture it. It was magical!
I posted a few images on Facebook and people were commenting with what they saw. Everyone had a different interpretation. It was so interesting!
This one is my favorite. I see a woman wearing a long fitted dress with her hair blowing in the wind. Do you see her or anything else?
I had so much fun doing this that I think I’m going to take it further and explore this idea even deeper. My smokey hair, clothes and bathroom were all worth it!
Let me know if you see anything in these images or if they make you feel a certain way. Would love to hear it!
Tips To Expand Your Creativity:
- Be open to spontaneity! Some of my favorite shoots were the unplanned, spur-of-the moment ones. No planning, just going for it.
- Expand your interests and learn about a wide variety of things – you never know where it will lead or how it will effect your work. Example here with me being open to learning about energy and burning sage! 🙂
- Have your tools ready and available. My camera is always close at hand so I’m ready to shoot when I see something interesting. I don’t have to dig through my closet to get it out. If that was the case I’d never shoot!
