Years ago before I got started with journaling it wasn’t even on my radar but as I got more into personal development I decided to give it a go. At first I just stared at the blank page not knowing what to write. Then little by little the words started flowing. Now it’s a non negotiable part of my morning routine and I usually have to cut myself off from writing! If it can happen to me it can definitely happen for you!
I find journaling very therapeutic and I’ve outlined the different ways I use it so you can get an idea of how it can be beneficial in your own life.
Brain Dump
Journaling is a great way to clear your mind so that you can move on with your day. You know – all those things you’re thinking about – your to do list, things that are bothering you or you’re excited about. Clear your mind so you can focus on what’s in front of you now.
Set Your Intentions
Rather than just letting your day unfold, when you journal about how you want your day to go this is how you set your intentions for the day and live a more purposeful life. It’s especially best to do this kind of journaling first thing in the morning before outside influences like social media, the news, family and work start to impact your day.
Work It Out
What you resist persists so if you have things that are bothering you and you’re just trying to ignore it and push ti aside, guess what?!? – It will continue to linger! The actual act of writing it out gets it out of your head and will make you feel better. It will feel like a release. You’ll soon get more clarity and get to the root of the issue so it can be resolved.
As If
Have you ever given yourself permission to dream about what you desire for your life? To actually DESIGN your life and not just let it happen by chance? What would it look like as if you were living it now? When you write about what your ideal day would look like you can start picking out the elements that you can start doing now to put the plans in place.
Goals and Manifestations
Writing about your goals, desires and what you want to manifest keeps these things top of mind. We all have busy lives and can easily get distracted by the day to day stuff. Journaling is a way to stay focused on the things that are truly important to you.
Focus on Positivity
One way to train your brain to focus on positivity is by paying attention to what’s good in your life – no matter how small it may be! If you journal in the morning think about the previous day and pick out the things that went well – things you’re grateful for. You can do this in the evening as well. This forces you to slow down to really take notice of the good that’s around you.
Me Time
Who doesn’t love some me time?!? Think of journaling as a form of self care. It can feel very therapeutic. It’s a time in your day – no matter how short or long that’s solely dedicated to you!
