In 2019 I set the intention to have solo art exhibits. I had been in a few group shows already but no solos. So I got to journaling, visualizing and putting it on my vision board!!
Once you set an intention or a goal that really excites you, a funny thing happens – you start to notice, become aware of, and be open to opportunities that you may never have noticed before.
Say for example you decide you want to buy a new car (for me right now it’s a green Jeep Renegade!) How often are you now noticing that car?!? It seems like all of a sudden because you want that car that everyone else now has that car! It’s because it’s in the forefront of your mind and it’s in your awareness.
So if you’ve been following along you know I did indeed have my first solo show in November at Gallery 505 in Riverdale. It was a great experience and I wanted more! There’s another gallery in the area that I’ve been speaking with about an exhibit but so far we’re at the very early stages of discussion. What I have so far is not a match for what they’re looking for but I’m not giving up! I originally had it in my head that the next exhibit had to be at that gallery but then I realized I needed to be open to other possibilities.
Recently I went to a coffee shop in my area recommended by one of my friends. He said there’s an upstairs area where people go with their laptop to work. On a day I needed a break from working at home I decided to head over – even though I’m not a coffee drinker. I was sure they would have tea (they do!).
The place has such a great vibe! Creative, yet laid back and cool. When I was there I noticed ART hanging on the wall! Ding Ding Ding!!! I inquired about it and they said they feature a different artist every couple of months and they gave me the name of the person to get in touch with to get info about an exhibit.
We spoke this week and I’m now booked for my next solo exhibit August 1-September 30th! Woo Hoo! More details as it gets closer but here are the takeaways…
- Set an intention that gets you excited
- Be open to opportunities – don’t focus on exactly how it’s going to happen
- Take action right away even if you’re afraid.
With the above example I was definitely fearful and hesitant to ask about an art exhibit. Why?!? Fear of rejection perhaps, but even though I felt the fear I asked anyway!! If you don’t ask, you’ll never know what could have been.
Tell me in the comments about an intention you set for 2020.
Did you know – art from my first show (and more) is now available in my ETSY Shop – check it out…
